New York Yankees Nick
Swisher is in his final season of his contract with the club and is looking for
a mega deal that can keep him on the team for another 7 years. By that time he
would be a young 38; yeah right! Swisher wants a 7 year/$126 million deal from
the Yanks or anyone that would offer him that kind of contract (CBS Sports,
2012). I know Swisher loves New York and what it has to offer, but the money
and years he wants is just not what the team is trying to pay after this
season. Don’t get me wrong, Swisher isn’t a scrub; he has skills. This guy is a
25 HR/90 RBI guy yearly and he does deserve a good contract but not a $100
million. I guess he will get that kind of contract because baseball is the only
sport where money isn’t an object and they are making it rain over there guys.
Bad contracts are given
every year in the MLB, just look at Carl Crawford and his bad contract that can
be argued as the worst in sports ever. This is something that has bothered many
sports enthusiast all over the country of these contracts handed out. Swisher
hands down is a $75 million player and has some more great years ahead of him.
He might be kind of weird and quirky but many love this guy for being himself
and genuine. Swisher isn’t your normal Yankee that you are used to seeing, but his
performance on the field speaks for himself. Who knows, the Philadelphia
Phillies or the New York Mets are in need of a bat of his kind and might throw
him that kind of money. Well maybe let’s take out the Mets; they are broke
right now. Sorry! It would have been good to see Swisher on the team for years to come, but players get money hungry when they see these bad contracts get thrown around; and who can blame them? They were inherited into this bad system. Right now I just want Swisher to keep hitting those home runs and get the Yankees into the playoffs and make a run for the World Series because right now they have the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays on their tails. What kind of money should Swisher get this off-season?
