The sports world has
been heating up all week with the comparisons between NBA greats Michael Jordan,
LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and who is greater. Every sports fan is keeping their eyes glued to
the TV or listening to sports radio to see what these analysts and fans have to
say about this whole debate. This week has been so exciting for the NBA to get
this kind of attention right before the All-Star break and Jordan’s 50th
birthday.
I don’t think these
comparisons are really fair and to me this isn’t a big debate after all. The
reason why is that there will only be one Michael Jordan; not two or three,
just one. Many are looking for the next savior to take the thrown after Jordan
left the NBA. See there is a difference between a great player that is the best
in the world right now and someone being greater then M.J. You have arguably the two top players in the world in Bryant and James which both are great in their own right. You have LeBron which is has changed the Miami Heat all around as is considered a dangerous team. James is also a 3-time league MVP, NBA champion and 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist. What more can a player want? Rings, rings and rings! It’s that simple for LeBron and that’s the reason why he went down to Miami in his 2010 free agency.
Now you have Kobe Bryant who has been electrifying the
league for 17 seasons with his will to win, amazing highlights and scoring
domination. There hasn’t been a shot the Kobe didn’t like and I mean that. A
great player that will do anything to win and even if that means calling out
his teammates. Bryant is a former league MVP, 5-time NBA champion, 2-time
Olympic Gold Medalist and 2-time NBA Finals MVP. He is one of the top 10 NBA
players of all-time when it’s all said and done.
Lastly, you have Michael Jordan who revolutionized the
NBA since the 1980’s and how people all around the world viewed it. Many kids,
teenagers and adults wanted to be like Mike. Considered the greatest NBA player
of all-time, the new comers are coming for his title. Jordan wasn’t just the
greatest at what he did on the basketball court but he changed sports
marketing. Let’s take a look at Gatorade and Nike brands. Before Jordan signed
on with these companies they weren’t even relevant in their industries. But
once he became the face, things just took off.
Till this day his Jordan brand sneakers are still selling
at high volumes in the millions every year. Jordan has been out the league since
2003 and he’s outselling all the newbies of the league that have signature
sneakers like Bryant, James, Rose and etc. Jordan is a 6-time NBA champion,
5-time league MVP and 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist. When Jordan was on the
floor he wanted to take your heart out. He didn’t want you to think that you
belonged on the same court as him.
In the next ten years it will go down as Jordan will
still be the greatest of all-time and then it will be LeBron James and then
Kobe. I really thought it was going to be Kobe after Jordan but what LeBron has
been doing these last couple of seasons being the great player that he’s been,
I have to choose him. There is no question who is the best in the league today
and that’s LeBron.
The thing with LeBron is that we don’t know his ceiling
yet because he’s in his prime right now. He has aspirations to win multiple championships
and some more MVP trophies. Now that is going to be really scary to witness. But
even if this does happen, Michael will still be the greatest. Who do you think
will be considered the greatest in the NBA in the next ten years?

ReplyDeleteWell Jordan at number one is a no brainer for me and I'm glad to see that name at that spot. The last two will always be debatable for the next 10 years. Right now I will put Kobe at number two as you did. But in 10 years later I just don't know. I have to see what LeBron accomplishes and then make that decision. Thanks for the support!
DeleteTen years from now out of these three players I will have 1. Michael Jordan, 2. Kobe Bryant, 3. Lebron James.
ReplyDeleteMichael Jordan - Not in my lifetime I don't see a player to dominate the game of basketball the way Michael Jordan did. His mental game, confidence, and basketball skills are on another planet. Michael on the basketball court was a "Hired Hitman". An amazing player.
Kobe Bryant - I consider Kobe to be the "Closet Thing To Michael We Have Seen" At first I viewed Kobe as being an arrogant player. He has matured during his NBA career. Make no mistake Kobe can ball. A healthy Kobe is a dangerous Kobe. He can score at will and has no fear about taking the game winning shot!!! Scoring is too easy for him. He is a proven champion.
Lebron James - When looking at his numbers he is easily one of the best "All Around Players" to ever step foot on a NBA court. His knowledge for the game is second to none. I lost respect for when he "Took His Talents" to South Beach. As of now he is the top player in the NBA and will take MVP this season. Until he proves to be that he is brave enough to "Want" the ball when the game is on the line, Kobe is one step ahead of him. It's not about Lebron making every game winning shot, its having the heart to do so.
Kobe is my favorite player in the last 10 years. He's does everything to win and like you said, is the closest to Jordan. I wish Bryant can stay in the league forever. It's hard to see the greats retire. But that's life right. LBJ is definitely one of the best all around players that we've ever seen since Oscar Robertson and Magic. I love this debate. It's great for sports and the NBA.
ReplyDeleteGreat read! As I've said before the interesting thing about LBJ is its not fair that he has this lackluster league to play in. The league is diluted therefore itmakes him look even that more great. Who can we compare him to besides an older Kobe, Durant? Honesty its like five players that I put on Lbj level as far as worth mentioning. So its hard you say lbj its the greatest with we he doesn't have the competition the other two had. Again not because he isn't great but who can't we judge him by?

ReplyDeleteThanks Haynes! LBJ is great in his own right. In the next ten years the question is "who will we take"? I just think that Kobe has already made his mark at 34 years old and in another 2-3 seasons he's done. But LeBron has another 8 to 9 years left maybe in him. We don't know his ceiling yet on how many more titles he will win. Only having one to finish with we already know who the winner is lol. Jordan, Kobe and then LeBron. It does feel that LBJ makes the game look easy. This guy is a manchild playing with children it seems.
