The Gilbert Arenas Story: A Career that Drowned by Injuries & Guns

Gilbert Arenas was once considered a young superstar in the NBA and former MVP candidate. Now he is just a shell of himself and looks to be a rundown 30 year old player. Once called Agent Zero by many is not even known as a name at all now. That is pretty sad to say for a player that once dominated the point guard position as a fierce competitor and scorer in the league. Injuries did plague his career for some seasons with knee surgeries but what put the nail in the coffin was his felony for gun possession that he faced while playing for the Washington Wizards in 2009. Arenas and his former teammate Javaris Crittenton got into a dispute over a gambling debt in the locker room and they both pulled out guns on each other. What the hell were they thinking?
First off, why is Arenas even part of this mess? Doesn’t he know that he has a hugeeeee contract with the team for over $116 million? That kind of contract should keep you on a squeaky clean road, but I guess not. Now he is paying the price for his actions. Crittenton isn’t even playing in the league anymore. Not because of the gun incident, really because he isn’t any good to put it plain and simple. The league made an example out of Arenas by letting him know to never bit the hand that feeds you. This wasn’t his first run-in with weapons possession since being in the league. Call up Golden State and they can give you the scoop on that.  There was even a time where Arenas was averaging about 29 points per game. Agent Zero was Mr. Clutch as he was hitting the big shots. For a guy drafted in the second round in 2001 by the Golden State Warriors, he was living the dream. Now he is just trying to get his life in order.

This man has been in the sporting and social media news throughout late, not because of basketball but for child support of his four kids and because of his wild spending habits. Which both are personal issues, but when we hear about stories like this of him we just think how a player of his statue fell that hard from grace. Arenas latest move last year was playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, where he didn’t even touch the floor. Now Arenas just looks abysmal. I really hope he gets his life together guys. When I see young Derrick Rose play today I think of the old Arenas. I guess we all have our time to shine and then times up.
