In a city where the Los Angeles Lakers are king, the Clippers having been making their own name in the city as a team to be reckon with. They are headlined by catalyst and MVP candidate Chris Paul. However, this is a season of worries that’s going on with the club. They have some things that they are trying to figure out quickly. For one they have a coach in Vinny Del Negro that’s in his final year of his contract. Secondly, how far can this team go this season in the playoffs? Lastly, can they re-sign their franchise player Chris Paul?
The L.A. Clippers I feel holding out a contract extension on Del Negro is on purpose to see if CP3 will re-up on a new deal. If Paul doesn’t stay, that will mean Del Negro will be gone as well. Here is the great news for the Clippers as some concerns have been put on the table for you. They will most likely keep both the coach and Paul for the upcoming years. Mainly because CP3 loves the way his team is flowing and winning right now; even though they have a 4-game losing streak, that’s not changing his mind right now.
We can’t forget that
the Clippers are the only team that can pay him top dollar and give him the
most years on his deal as part of the collective bargaining agreement. They can
and will offer him a 5 year/$108 million deal that will keep him in a Clipper
uniform. Many questions ask if that will be enough to keep CP3 in L.A.
For Paul to stay with
the club I believe he wants to see how far they can go into the playoffs with
Griffin as his superstar side kick. People don’t really understand that the
playoffs can make or break a resigning of any contract. Yes, most of the time
in sports it’s all about the green dollar. But there are instances where
players do want to win titles as well and why not get paid too? I believe Paul
is one of those cases where he wants to win and get paid. But can this team go
deep into the playoffs.
They are definitely a
championship contender in the league. I always believe that if you’re in the playoffs,
you’re a contender period. But will that be enough for the team to persuade
Paul into resigning. I don’t think so! Paul has a lot of pull and calls the
shots for the team as he works with upper management to put the right players
and personnel on this team. I guess we are all waiting to see if he will stay
or go to another team this summer. Do you think CP3 will stay or go?
