A True Competitor Inks 3 Year/$34 Million Deal

Kevin Garnett is considered one of the greatest big men to ever play the game, is back with the Boston Celtics for another 3 years. The 36 year old player considered retiring after the playoffs, but suddenly had a change of heart. Who can even blame him? Having one of his best seasons as a Celtic; he seemed to be rejuvenated. Garnett announced today that he will re-sign with the Celtics and not retire. In his mind and believes that the Celtics could have beat the Heat and won the N.B.A. championship if everyone on the team was healthy. After the Miami Heat won the finals, I started to believe it as well. I’m a big Garnett fan and love the way he competes every game and leaves it all out on the floor. You can never say as a fan that he didn’t give you your money’s worth.
People you know I have to give you my input what I think about the signing. So here we go. I do think that it was great for the Celtics to re-sign KG because he is the heart of the team, but I don’t think that 3 years was too smart. Again KG is 36 and probably has another year to two left in him. This seemed like a Derek Jeter signing; When the Yankees gave him a 4 year deal at the age of 37.  The last year on the deal is going to be a complete wash. A two year deal would have been better. The only thing I question is if Garnett wanted more?

At the same time Garnett does deserves every penny of the money, but he will be 39 years old when the contract is up. I just don’t think he is worth that kind of money at that age. Most players his age are getting the veterans minimum to league’s mid-level exception. I’m truly happy for KG. I just hope that he earns every penny that they just gave him. The Boston Celtics in my eyes scored big in this year’s draft getting Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo. They will be decent to very good pros. These two will be able to give Garnett some rest through the season. What do you think about the signing people? I really want to hear your views.

    1. Lee, you're right about them going after Mayo because Memphis didn't offer him a contract. That would be real crazy if they can get him. Boston has a squad man. Yikes..
