Starbury has Found a Home in China
I know this topic tonight is going to have many of you all scratching your heads, but what the heck. I’m going in! The subject tonight is about one of my favorite players of all-time; two-time N.B.A. All-Star and two-time All-N.B.A. third team Stephon Marbury a.k.a. Starbury. Anyone very close to me knows that I grew up a huge fan and emulated my game after him. I know what you’ll are saying right now; Stephon Marbury huh? Why not Michael Jordan? First off, Jordan is my favorite player. The thing is I couldn’t fly like “Air Jordan”. But everyone in the 90’s wanted to be like “Mike”. Enough of me and back to prime time! Marbury has many fans throughout the world and people that can’t stand him and felt he was a cancer while playing in the N.B.A. Stephon has had his ups and downs throughout his career while playing for five different N.B.A. teams. One thing I can say about him was that he was one of the most electrifying point guards that we will ever see. He could score on anyone in the league with power and finesse while giving that behind the back pass for a dunk. He was a player that many came out to see. The main attraction that filled the seats at N.B.A. games and the owners loved him for that. Don’t get me wrong, Marbury made a nice payday throughout his 13 year career. He made well over $150 million.
Marbury was even a more caring person that gave back to the communities which he was from. He was the only player that wanted to take the burden off of many families across the nation. Marbury came out with a signature sneaker that cost only $15. I just don’t think you can get more caring than that. What other player would have done something like that. Remember it’s all about the money. Marbury was exiled from the New York Knicks and then the N.B.A., but they will never say that had any part in that and would just put the blame on him. However, Marbury found himself a home in China. He is one of the biggest stars out there right now and will be a legend out there when he retires. He is showed so much love out there. That is what he was missing in the United States. I know many of his critics feel that all the effort he put in playing in China, why didn’t he win a championship in his home country. Many people don’t know how hard it is to win on the biggest stage. Look at the greats that didn’t win a title, but had a huge influence on the game. We put too much pressure on our stars to win titles to where it at times messes up their psyche. I understand that is the reason why they are getting paid the big bucks and they should just man up. When Marbury won the C.B.A. title for the Beijing Ducks, he was promised that a bronze statue will be built for him as a tribute. I am very happy for him that he found a place where he can call his second home and feel the great reception after a 2009 meltdown in the United States. While many thought he was on drugs with his behavior.
Here is where the fun part begins people. “The Hall of Fame”? I think that Marbury should be considered for the Hall. Starbury has averaged throughout his career 19.3 points per game while dishing out 7.6 assists. Those are astounding career numbers for a point guard. I believe that he should at least be considered in a couple of years when the time comes. Give him at least that respect David Stern and company. I would have loved to see him finish his career with the New York Knicks or any other team, but everything happens for a reason and he has found his meaning and calling in China. What are your thoughts on this topic?
