Mariano Rivera Blows a Kiss Goodbye to Baseball

Mariano Rivera was just a kid from Panama that was just humbled as ever to play the game of baseball which he loved so much. Being a part of an organization like the New York Yankees was a dream come true for Rivera in 1995. Now fast forward 18 years later, we have witnessed greatness to the highest level.

Rivera who wears the number 42 in remembrance of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson was just a piece class that he showed in his major league career. Rivera wanted to be an example of how players should conduct themselves on-and-off the field.

Rivera will leave the game of baseball as the greatest closer to have ever done it with currently a staggering 608 saves in his career. Some look at Rivera as just a great closer but I look at him as one of the greatest pitchers to ever put on a uniform. When we think of what we want our star athletes to be, he is that person.

Mariano was never a player to get into any trouble and has just been the perfect team player. We aren’t just talking about any team but the New York Yankees. This is a team with a lot of expectations every season and a team that has 27 World Championships under their belt. So you know the lights are bright in the city that never sleeps.

Rivera through his career has taken on the toughest challenges and faced some of the greatest players in baseball history. He never faltered under pressure and the stage was never too big for him to perform. I will and as many of these great sports fans and players out there will miss Mariano Rivera for what he’s brought to baseball and sports.

Sadly I don’t think we’ll see in our lifetime another pitcher of his magnitude to do what he’s done; especially for a team like the New York Yankees. I’m glad that he came back after a horrific injury last year. With five championships and a glorified career the man they call “Mo” is ready for the next chapter in his life and that’s retirement.

What was your greatest moments watching Mariano Rivera in his career?
