K-Mart: A Huge Lift for the New York Knicks

Toughness seems to be back in New York with the addition of Kenyon Martin in late February. He has displayed great leadership on the floor and has become a defensive stopper for the Knicks.
The man they call K-Mart is just happy to be back in the NBA at the age of 35. He feels that he still has it in him to be a great contributor for a team. Mike Woodson and the New York Knicks seen that in him and gave him a role in their scheme.

When Knicks star Tyson Chandler went out with a neck injury, Martin took over the center position and he didn’t disappoint. What Martin provides the Knicks is stability on the defensive side where the team is known for its offense. Melo loves the acquisition because he knows for the team to win it all they need defense and who is better to provide that for them.

Tomorrow will be a big game and a series opener for the New York Knicks, as they will host their rival the Boston Celtics in a first round playoff matchup. Martin knows it will be all hands on deck for the team to ride the ship and he will be ready to bang with KG down in the post.

Martin wants to show people around league that he isn’t this locker room cancer and prove to all that he’s a great teammate and not just a tremendous defender. For many years’ fans, critics and players have judged Martin for his tattoos, attitude on the court and his lack of smiling to be considered this bad guy.

I feel that K-Mart is the opposite of that and it took him over 13 seasons to show what he can do off the court to provide a lift to an organization that hasn’t won for over a decade. Boston will be a tough match for them but I think Martin and the Knicks will prevail in six.

  1. He also gets a lot of put back and energy dunks, real good with the pick n roll too. I can tell from watching over his career that he's matured and not being on a roster this season really humbled him.

    1. Adam, you're right on the money with that. Martin is a big upgrade for the Knicks at PF. what a pickup for them. Just hope he can stay healthy through the playoffs and sky's the limit for them.
